Alpha 5 – Why and How Do I Pray?

Admin

  • Hospitality to be set up before we start
  • Introduce any new guests, ask them how they came to be at Alpha. Pass around the registration list. Add any new names and contact details.
  • Remind them about the “Alpha Day” on Saturday 15th February, 7 weeks away. Tell them what happens.
    • 4 videos, discussion groups, lunch and fun. It will be great, please mark the date on your calendar.
  • Ask them, ‘Can anyone remember the name of the video from last week?’ (Answer: How Can I Have Faith?)
  • Remind them of some interesting points said in last week’s video/group discussion, for example, in the video:-
    • A Christian is someone who follows Jesus and has a relationship with God through Him. 
    • Christians, through this faith, know that they are children of God and they know they have eternal life.
    • Give Nicky’s example of sin (book in hand) being a blockage to God but then being passed onto Jesus (the other hand), leaving us free to have a relationship with God. 
    • This relationship starts when Jesus knocks on our hearts… We have to invite Him in.

  1. What did you think or feel about the talk?

  3. What do you think about the idea of God answering prayer?
  4. Have you ever prayed and a coincidence happened?
  5. Optional -> In the talk, various reasons for praying are given. Which of these do you relate to and why?
